Passing on The Gingerbread Rumour

Have you heard? Yes probably you have. The highly anticipated update to the Android OS could begin to roll out next week. Not much is really known about it apart from the fact the focus of the release is on the UI. AndroidandMe quote that several hardware partners said it “change the way we use our phones”.
Hopefully by the end of next week there will be plenty of videos to wet the apatite.

Developers all around, rejoice! Adobe AIR has been released for the Android Market, giving developers a new way to make their desktop apps available on the go. It opens up a fresh avenue of possibilities for those looking to depart from the native SDK. Also, developers familiar with the AIR software will be able to quickly port their applications over to the Android platform.

Understanding the Android Market

Country Specific
Only some people are aware that the Android Market differs depending on the originating country. The difference mainly being the lack of paid applications (although some free apps are hidden too). Just recently Google announced the expansion of the paid market to a total of 29 countries. This is fantastic news, however I currently don’t live in any of those. So this means no paid apps.

Skype for all

As the title suggests Skype is now available to download for any Android user having previously just be the exclusive right of those on Verizon. If you are not familiar with Skype, where have you been? Keep up. Google it.
With the new app, you can make free Skype-to-Skype calls, and send and receive IMs for free, one-to-one or with a group. You can also call phones at Skype’s great rates – over WiFi or 3G.
Japan and China you’ll have to wait and apparently Galaxy S users are having some  major problems.

For all you Android fans out there this page is for you. Google have created a slick page packed with all the information you need about any Android handset currently on the market. It’s ideal for when your current 36 month contracts comes to an end.

Google has decided to unleash the Gmail application into the Android Market. This doesn’t seem like a big deal, however for those with aging phones and no sign of an Android update, this is sort of a blessing.

Think what you like about tablets, and the usefulness of them, the market is now well and truly open. With Apple pushing the product on to their loyal iwashed kids, people are now curious about tablets, including manufacturers. Throughout this year, there has been an almost daily rumour or announcement regarding Android powered tablets. This made the recent confession by Google that Android 2.2 (Froyo) is not really set-up for tablets rather odd.

T-Mobile G2 to have 800MHz processor

The major news is that it will pack a 800MHz Qualcomm Scorpion processor as opposed to the rumored 1GHz Snapdragon. However, it will run a stock version of Froyo, and offer full Flash 10.1 support. It will also be one of the first phones to support the HSPA+ network, bringing its users speeds higher than ever before.

Yahoo! Fantasy Football app in the Android Market NOW !

Yahoo promised to release an Android app for managing fantasy football teams this summer, but they waited quite a while. The NFL season starts next week, so Yahoo! was wise to finally get the app onto the Market.
